We were very impressed and pleased with the property and amenities. Parking for two cars easily and an enclosed courtyard garden which caught the sun and was a safe and secure place for our two dogs. The barn was beautifully presented and with tasteful decor. There was everything we could need and a very pleasant layout for us as a family of four adults to enjoy and have our own space too. The location is super for accessing so many places of Interest - a great base to explore from - and Mary provided excellent information of the locality and places to eat. Our host was responsive and informative, and it was lovely to meet her in person. (Coach House) Fabulous week at Mary's cottage. Everything was really lovely. Hopefully we'll be back. (Olde Blue Bell Cottage) Another wonderful stay with Mary. The Coach House is always spotlessly clean, beautifully maintained, and feels like a home from home. Mary is a fantastic host—friendly, welcoming, and always helpful. It’s clear how much care and attention she puts into both the property and her guests’ experience. I thoroughly enjoyed the stay and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a comfortable and relaxing place to stay. I look forward to returning again. (Coach House) Mary was a fantastic host who provided clear instructions for check in as well as lots of recommendations for places to go and places to eat. The cottage itself was perfect, the kitchen was well stocked with essentials. The views from upstairs were extremely beautiful and the beds so comfortable and cosy. It made for a fantastic base for our trips in the Lake District, the weather was fortunately extremely pleasant. I highly recommend staying here if you want to explore the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales. (Olde Blue Bell Barn) Lovely homely base, very well equipped for a family of 4, and a lovely play park right on the doorstep so our kids could safely pop there on their own. Mary is right next door and rents out a group of cottages so it felt almost like a little safe community. Also it meant if you needed anything she was right to hand... not that we did as there was a really good manual with everything you need to know and LOTS of very helpful leaflets so we could plan our entire stay. Lovely spot...highly recommend for a few quiet days. Mary's thoughtful little touches really appreciated..milk, tea & choc treats! Wished we could've stayed longer & explored the area a bit more. hopefully will return! (Olde Blue Bell Cottage) We’d been visiting the area ‘house hunting for a new home’. Not an easy task, but our stay at Mary’s cottage provided us a lovely retreat from our rushing about and head-to-heart house choosing wranglings. The cottage was plenty big enough four the four of us, very private and extremely comfortable…no one wanted to leave that amazing BIG bathtub at the end of the week, what a place to unwind overly busy minds and bodies! Also enjoyed some amazing, brilliantly clear star gazing over our evening brew/suppers. We particularly loved the walk up through the local church yard to the top of the hill…walk didn’t take overly long and the views were fantastic…highly recommend if staying at Mary’s. Thank you Mary for all your support, kindness during our visit and thank you for the use of your lovely cottage x (Olde Blue Bell Cottage) I have just spent 5 days at this beautiful cottage with my wife, teenage daughter, toddler and our dog. It was welcoming, clean and had all the amenities. It was exactly as described and communication with the host was prompt and informative. She provided information on local amenities and instructions in finding the accommodation was very helpful. The cottage was well located on the outskirts of the Lake District in a quiet location. Beds were comfortable, shower was lovely and hot and we had everything we needed. Highly recommended and would live to return in the future. (Olde Blue Bell Barn) This was our second time staying at Mary's and we'd happily stay here again! Great location and lovely home. Highly recommended. (Olde Blue Bell Barn) We can not fault our stay in anyway, Mary was so welcoming, with only 20 minutes notice, she put the heating on and turned the lights on for us and came out greet us on arrival. The cottage was beautiful, fresh and had amazing views. Everything is catered for, lots of leaflets, books and maps for things to do in the area. It was like home from home and our dog loved it too. We will be highly recommending to everyone we know who's planning on visiting the lake district. Amazing and thank you Mary 😀 (Olde Blue Bell Barn)
Thank you so much Mary. (Olde Blue Bell Cottage)
We stayed at the Coach House at the end of March and had a truly enjoyable stay in beautiful surroundings. Mary was so welcoming and a font of knowledge. The accommodation was all we could ask for, a real home from home, everything that was necessary for a perfect holiday. Would love to have stayed for a second week! Thank you for a wonderful stay.
Thank you for your lovely review. I’m so glad you enjoyed your stay at The Coach House, and exploring this beautiful area. We hope we will see you again sometime. Mary
Thank you for the lovely welcome – everything in the cottage one could possibly want .. thank you for a lovely stay
Hi Bernice, so glad you enjoyed your stay. It was lovely to meet you. Mary
I have just spent a week at Olde Bluebell Barn. It’s a lovely place and the pictures do not do it justice. I could quite easily live there. It is ideally located and is such a lovely place. Mary is very warm, friendly and helpful. I just cannot fault the accommodation and hope to return there very soon. Best place I have stayed in so far with the dog. Also the double bed is very comfortable. I was sad to leave.
This year was our fourth year back at Blue Bell Cottage, we had a wonderful holiday the cottage is conveniently located for easy access to the rest of the lakes. There are plenty of lovely walks close by if you don’t want to travel to far such as Sandside, Arnside, Levens Park and Dallam Park. There’s plenty of local pubs serving excellent food within a 10 minute drive the Hare and Hounds at Leven and the Watermill at Ings are both worth a visit. Mary is a gem nothing is to much trouble for her and she’s the font of all knowledge about the Lake District. We’ve already booked to come back next year and can’t wait our family and dogs love it!
Fantastic location just 8 minutes from M6 motorway with easy access to travel around the Lake District yet located in a lovely quiet village. Many lively walks within easy reach, great if like us you have a dog. The cottage is well equipped with everything you need for a very comfortable stay including a lovely enclosed garden area with table and access to a BBQ, again great if you have a dog or small children. The cottage is very cosy with heating if needed, a new modern bathroom and well equipped kitchen. This is our fifth year staying in the cottage and the owner, Mary is absolutely lovely, nothing is any bother, she has become more of a friend over the years. Cannot recommend the cottage highly enough and great value too. Plenty of really good restaurants and pubs nearby and short joirney time to May places of interest such as Arnside, Kendal, Keswick and Lake Windemere. We’ll certainly be back again!

My husband and I have just spent three days/nights here and it was wonderful. The pictures of the cottage are fab but even they can’t do justice to how welcome and at home you feel when you walk through the door. The location is also fantastic because you feel remote, yet in just one mile you have a super restaurant, shops, pubs, butchers etc., and great local walks too (all thanks to Mary’s information folder!). We really felt spoilt for choice. A fantastic break that I wish had been longer!

The Coach House was perfect for our friend’s reunion weekend. Spacious but very warm and cosy so didn’t care about the weather outside!! Would definitely recommend to others

Well we just love it here. Stayed about 4 or 5 times now and in all weathers!! Hot, Snowy, rainy and perfect every time. Everything you could wish for, lovely walks, pubs, hiking , Shops close by, and most of all such a cosy well maintained cottage with a lovely hostess Mary to top it all, look forward to our next trip x x

Our grandson was immediately taken with the “upside down” cottage we loved the fantastic views. The cottage was warm, clean and well equipped and owners were very helpful and supplied plenty of local info within the cottage. We found it to be the perfect base for exploring, just so much to do every day. Our grandson Jack (4yrs) told us “It’s the best holiday ever” what more could you ask!

Just got back from a great week at the cottage, it’s in a good location with easy access to the rest of the Lakes, we visited Bowness on Windermere, Keswick, Kendal, Dallam and Levens Parks, Fell Foot and Arnside coastal walk, our dogs thoroughly enjoyed their holiday. Lovely walk 2 minutes away up to Heversham Head. Mary was really helpful so much information we were spoilt for choice where to visit first. Local pub 2 minutes’ walk away is great for an evening drink and wind down.

4 of us stayed in The Barn and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Location-wise, the local pub is only a five-minute walk away; the village centre only a five-minute drive. We took our Staffie with us and there were plenty of walks for us to enjoy. Accommodation-wise, the scenery from the lounge window was breath-taking. The rooms were clean, comfortable and warm. The welcome pack listed all local amenities including restaurants to takeaways and local attractions. Overall we were all very impressed 🙂
The Coach House, Stuart Pratt, February 2013
We stayed in the wonderful cottage for four nights, and can honestly say that the amenities and quality of accommodation was 5 star, everything you need for your stay is provided along with tea, coffee and other provisions provided by the owner Mary when you arrive. Location and surrounding area is perfect for Windermere and Arnside. Our children loved the cottage and will most definitely not be using any other accommodation as I believe this cannot be bettered.
Olde Blue Bell Barn, Nick Blunt, September 2012
We returned to the cottage after having stayed 10 years previous! The cottage has a fantastic view and is well equipped with all the home comforts, pets are very welcome and it is a great base for exploring the south lakes .the owners are nearby if you need any advice or information on days out. We will definitely be returning in the future.

We have just spent a week at The Coach House celebrating my wife’s parent’s 50th wedding anniversary. We really enjoyed our stay as the accommodation and location were excellent. The house is a credit to Mary and really does feel like a home from home. As for the location, this was our 1st visit to The Lakes and The Coach House gave us excellent access to all the beauty spots including Ambleside, Bowness etc. Kendal is also a stone’s throw away for all your shopping needs. We hope to return.
