Wonderful Wedding Weekend

We arrived on a Friday at noon, a lovely welcome tray and there was a great guide to all we needed to know for our stay at The Coach House. We were attending a family wedding at nearby Park House Barn. A lovely home from home for us, and would recommend and would go again. Very friendly and helpful owners nearby. Thank you again.

So glad the Coach House worked well for your wedding celebrations. We'd love to have you back again. Mary

Olde Blue Bell Barn

We had a lovely holiday staying in Olde Blue Bell Barn. The cottage is delightful, well equipped, immaculately clean and very comfortable. It is in an ideal location for visiting the Lake District (and also the Yorkshire Dales and Lancashire). Tea, coffee, milk and biscuits were available when we arrived. Mary was very welcoming and a font of knowledge. We all particularly appreciated the snuggle blanket for our dog. Highlights of our stay include watching the sunset over Arnside estuary while sitting on the bank eating chips in a bun from the Arnside chippy (some of the best chips we have eaten). We also enjoyed watching the Arnside tidal bore one morning. The sticky toffee pudding at Heversham Hotel was delicious and very filling. The gingerbread from Grasmere was well worth queuing up to buy. Going further afield, Hardknott Roman Fort is well worth a visit, particularly if you want to test your driving skills on one of England’s scariest roads, Hardknott Pass. We hope to stay again as there are plenty more places we would like to visit, as well as trying the Via Ferrata at Honister Slate Mine!

A fabulous review, thank you so much. So glad the cottage worked for you, and you certainly made the most of your week with all your exploration. Fish and chips at Arnside are my favourite too! Hope to see you again sometime. Mary

Memorable Week

We took two cottages for a week to celebrate a special birthday. We enjoyed our stay very much. The cottages were clean, well equipped and cosy. Mary gave us good advice on places to eat and was generally welcoming and helpful. My family all want to come back. We love the accommodation and the area.

Thank you so much for a lovely review. I'm so glad the birthday celebrations were such a success. Looking forward to seeing you all again sometime. Mary

Fabulous accommodation

We stayed for 2 weeks in the Coach House. The accommodation was spotlessly clean and well equipped and with enough storage to deal with all our outdoor gear (walking and kayaking) as well as normal clothes.
The small, enclosed courtyard garden gives you somewhere to sit in privacy outside. For those with young children there's a small park at the entrance to the road just 50m from the cottages and there is excellent food and drink to be had at the Heversham Hotel less than 10 minutes walk/3 minutes drive away.
For gentler walking to break your legs in, take a walk up Heversham Head (up through the church yard) and/or a trip to Arnside (and make sure you visit the chip shop for lunch). These were the owner's top tips and well worth following.
Nearby Milnthorpe gives you access to a supermarket, pubs and a decent kebab/pizza shop all within a few minutes drive.
There is easy access to the main vehicle routes (e.g. A590/A6/M6) making it a great base for exploring the Lake District, surrounding coastal area and day trips to the Yorkshire Dales (visit the Ingleton Caves and Waterfall walks as a day trip) easy. Chocolate making at Hawkshead is great for a wet day with kids. Even Keswick is only an hour or so away.
Mary was a great host and clearly takes a pride in her properties and had great local knowledge.

Thanks so much for such an informative review. It was great to meet you all, and you certainly made the most of your time here. We would love to host you again anytime! Mary

great find

Perfect location for exploring Lancs, Lakes and Yorkshire. Easily accessible to great road network takes you swiftly to the places on your holiday to do list. Helpful and welcoming host, spotlessly clean, well equipped, dog friendly and great pub nearby. Lovely walks from the door. We shall be booking again for next year!

So happy you loved your holiday enough to want to return next year! You were great guests, so nice to meet you all. Thanks for a fabulous review. Mary

Wonderful cottage

Olde Blue Bell Cottage:
Wonderful cottage, lovely village location. We were all made very welcome especially Lilly/ Lou the dogs with there sofa blanket left for them. Some lovely walks in the local area. Heversham hotel pub was very welcoming to all.

Thanks for your lovely review. So glad that Lilly & Lou enjoyed their blanket and all the lovely walks in this area. Great to meet you all. Hope to see you again sometime. Mary

Coach House

Loved the Coach House, plenty of room for 3 adults, 2 teenagers and a large boisterous labrador. The property was immaculately clean, very well equipped, even down to coffee, tea, sugar, cling film and kitchen roll! Washing machine and dishwasher made life much easier too. Mary was very welcoming and helpful, pointing out some great places to visit and walk the dog. We can definitely recommend Arnside, Coniston and the walk up Heversham Head for stunning views. Thank you Mary for a great stay.

So glad you enjoyed your week. It was a pleasure to meet you and your lovely family. I'm delighted that you loved the Coach House, and got to so many stunning places during the course of the week. I'd be happy to welcome you back anytime. Mary

Just what we wanted

Olde Blue Bell Cottage is ideally sited for visiting the southern Lake District and the accommodation suited the needs of our family and dogs. The Coach House

We stayed at the Coach House at the end of March and had a truly enjoyable stay in beautiful surroundings. Mary was so welcoming and a font of knowledge. The accommodation was all we could ask for, a real home from home, everything that was necessary for a perfect holiday. Would love to have stayed for a second week! Thank you for a wonderful stay.

WoW!!!

I have just spent a week at Olde Bluebell Barn. It’s a lovely place and the pictures do not do it justice. I could quite easily live there. It is ideally located and is such a lovely place. Mary is very warm, friendly and helpful. I just cannot fault the accommodation and hope to return there very soon. Best place I have stayed in so far with the dog. Also the double bed is very comfortable. I was sad to leave.

Home from Home

This year was our fourth year back at Blue Bell Cottage, we had a wonderful holiday the cottage is conveniently located for easy access to the rest of the lakes. There are plenty of lovely walks close by if you don’t want to travel to far such as Sandside, Arnside, Levens Park and Dallam Park. There’s plenty of local pubs serving excellent food within a 10 minute drive the Hare and Hounds at Leven and the Watermill at Ings are both worth a visit. Mary is a gem nothing is to much trouble for her and she’s the font of all knowledge about the Lake District. We’ve already booked to come back next year and can’t wait our family and dogs love it!

Fantastic Cottage

Fantastic location just 8 minutes from M6 motorway with easy access to travel around the Lake District yet located in a lovely quiet village. Many lively walks within easy reach, great if like us you have a dog. The cottage is well equipped with everything you need for a very comfortable stay including a lovely enclosed garden area with table and access to a BBQ, again great if you have a dog or small children. The cottage is very cosy with heating if needed, a new modern bathroom and well equipped kitchen. This is our fifth year staying in the cottage and the owner, Mary is absolutely lovely, nothing is any bother, she has become more of a friend over the years. Cannot recommend the cottage highly enough and great value too. Plenty of really good restaurants and pubs nearby and short joirney time to May places of interest such as Arnside, Kendal, Keswick and Lake Windemere. We’ll certainly be back again!

My husband and I have just spent three days/nights here and it was wonderful. The pictures of the cottage are fab but even they can’t do justice to how welcome and at home you feel when you walk through the door. The location is also fantastic because you feel remote, yet in just one mile you have a super restaurant, shops, pubs, butchers etc., and great local walks too (all thanks to Mary’s information folder!). We really felt spoilt for choice. A fantastic break that I wish had been longer!

The Coach House was perfect for our friend’s reunion weekend. Spacious but very warm and cosy so didn’t care about the weather outside!! Would definitely recommend to others

Well we just love it here. Stayed about 4 or 5 times now and in all weathers!! Hot, Snowy, rainy and perfect every time. Everything you could wish for, lovely walks, pubs, hiking , Shops close by, and most of all such a cosy well maintained cottage with a lovely hostess Mary to top it all, look forward to our next trip x x

Olde Blue Bell Barn,Diane & John, February 2013
Our grandson was immediately taken with the “upside down” cottage we loved the fantastic views. The cottage was warm, clean and well equipped and owners were very helpful and supplied plenty of local info within the cottage. We found it to be the perfect base for exploring, just so much to do every day. Our grandson Jack (4yrs) told us “It’s the best holiday ever” what more could you ask!

Olde Blue Bell Cottage, Karen & Steve, August 2013
Just got back from a great week at the cottage, it’s in a good location with easy access to the rest of the Lakes, we visited Bowness on Windermere, Keswick, Kendal, Dallam and Levens Parks, Fell Foot and Arnside coastal walk, our dogs thoroughly enjoyed their holiday. Lovely walk 2 minutes away up to Heversham Head. Mary was really helpful so much information we were spoilt for choice where to visit first. Local pub 2 minutes’ walk away is great for an evening drink and wind down.

Olde Blue Bell Barn, Sharon, July 2013
4 of us stayed in The Barn and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Location-wise, the local pub is only a five-minute walk away; the village centre only a five-minute drive. We took our Staffie with us and there were plenty of walks for us to enjoy. Accommodation-wise, the scenery from the lounge window was breath-taking. The rooms were clean, comfortable and warm. The welcome pack listed all local amenities including restaurants to takeaways and local attractions. Overall we were all very impressed 🙂

The Coach House, Stuart Pratt, February 2013
We stayed in the wonderful cottage for four nights, and can honestly say that the amenities and quality of accommodation was 5 star, everything you need for your stay is provided along with tea, coffee and other provisions provided by the owner Mary when you arrive. Location and surrounding area is perfect for Windermere and Arnside. Our children loved the cottage and will most definitely not be using any other accommodation as I believe this cannot be bettered.

Olde Blue Bell Barn, Nick Blunt, September 2012
We returned to the cottage after having stayed 10 years previous! The cottage has a fantastic view and is well equipped with all the home comforts, pets are very welcome and it is a great base for exploring the south lakes .the owners are nearby if you need any advice or information on days out. We will definitely be returning in the future.

The Coach House, Tony & Gina, September 2012
We have just spent a week at The Coach House celebrating my wife’s parent’s 50th wedding anniversary. We really enjoyed our stay as the accommodation and location were excellent. The house is a credit to Mary and really does feel like a home from home. As for the location, this was our 1st visit to The Lakes and The Coach House gave us excellent access to all the beauty spots including Ambleside, Bowness etc. Kendal is also a stone’s throw away for all your shopping needs. We hope to return.
