Everything you need for a fantastic holiday!

We have just returned from a fabulous weeks stay at Mary’s property. We were welcomed personally and Mary had also provided a lovely welcome tea and coffee tray with sweet treats the kids really enjoyed, fresh flowers were a beautiful touch also. The barn is clean, comfortable and very cozy. There is everything you would need for a fantastic holiday. The location is ideal for lots of fantastic places, we visited the steam railway, Kendal and Windermere and had a day at the beach in Morecambe. All are within 30 mins drive or less. Thank you for a wonderful time we will not hesitate to visit again! (Coach House)

Perfect for families

Mary is a font of local knowledge and made us very welcome. The cottage is lovely and spacious and centrally placed for exploring the area, but in a quiet village location. Perfect for families with a playpark a few steps away. (Olde Blue Bell Cottage)

Perfect location

Perfect location in a quaint and quiet English hamlet in the Lake District that was extremely accessible to many of the main attractions in the area. There was a play park at the house which was safe and private (perfect for young families). The upstairs lounge and kitchen combination was homely and perfect for our family to gather in the evening. Highly recommend for families wanting to enjoy the Lake District and surrounding area. (Coach House)

An amazing wee place!

Where do I start? what an amazing wee place. We had such a chilled holiday and our wee puppy settled in really well, he loved his wee snuggle blanket so much. Bedrooms were really comfortable and plenty storage. Bath was out of this world, huge!! Just what you needed after a hike up Heversham Hill. Kitchen was well equipped and garden was a glorious suntrap. Milnthorpe is within 5 min drive with shops, bars, takeaways aplenty. WiFi was good, and with teenagers in tow this was a must. We visited Windermere, Kendal, Levens Hall and the local coastal villages. All in all this was an excellent holiday with an excellent host. Thanks Mary hopefully we will be back one day. Love the Kanes xx (Olde Blue Bell Cottage)

Highly Recommended

The Coach House is well equipped and located in a beautiful little village where you can go out for very pleasant rural walks from the doorstep. Ideal if you are a dog owner! There is a small play park close to the house which is great if you have children as it is a safe space to run off some energy! Mary is an excellent host.. Very helpful and knowledgeable in her communication and answered any queries very quickly. The property is more than adequately equipped with the addition of a small freezer which is great for storing food as the main supermarkets are located a few miles away. There is ample equipment to make family meals and thoughtful extra touches like chopping boards and an array of knives etc which alot of properties don't have! The washing machine is very useful to have and there is an outside retractable washing line and pegs provided as well as an indoor airer for wet days. The beds are comfortable and it is very peaceful at night to sleep. There is a comfy seating area in the lounge to relax in. We loved the dog rug and dog cuddle blanket which our dog really appreciated. Check in was easy with a key lock box system. We visited many places during our stay both nearby and up to an hour away in the car. We recommend Grasmere gingerbread it is delicious! Coniston is a great place for paddleboarding and we enjoyed the Langdale Pikes area for some mountain walking. Would definitely recommend this accommodation and we hope to return soon!

A great stay!

We had a great Stay in the coach house. Excellent base for exploring so many beautiful places. The house is lovely, clean and has everything you will need and more. If you are looking for a quiet place to stay to explore the Lakes or even the Yorkshire Dales then no need to look any further. Mary kept us very well informed about check in and gave us some brilliant recommendations for walks and places to visit.

A perfect cottage!

The cottage was perfect for us (two adults and two spoilt larger dogs). It is just at the edge of the Lake District, so easy travel distance to it but also close to other recognised Areas of Outstanding Beauty. So perfect location for people who don't want to be in the middle of the tourists but easy access to trails etc. Mary provided lots of very useful information and was very helpful. Communication was seamless. Can fully recommend the cottage. It has everything one needs, clean and cozy. (Olde Blue Bell Cottage)

The Coach House

We stayed at the Coach House at the end of March and had a truly enjoyable stay in beautiful surroundings. Mary was so welcoming and a font of knowledge. The accommodation was all we could ask for, a real home from home, everything that was necessary for a perfect holiday. Would love to have stayed for a second week! Thank you for a wonderful stay.

Thank you for your lovely review. I’m so glad you enjoyed your stay at The Coach House, and exploring this beautiful area. We hope we will see you again sometime. Mary

I have just spent a week at Olde Bluebell Barn. It’s a lovely place and the pictures do not do it justice. I could quite easily live there. It is ideally located and is such a lovely place. Mary is very warm, friendly and helpful. I just cannot fault the accommodation and hope to return there very soon. Best place I have stayed in so far with the dog. Also the double bed is very comfortable. I was sad to leave.

Home from Home

This year was our fourth year back at Blue Bell Cottage, we had a wonderful holiday the cottage is conveniently located for easy access to the rest of the lakes. There are plenty of lovely walks close by if you don’t want to travel to far such as Sandside, Arnside, Levens Park and Dallam Park. There’s plenty of local pubs serving excellent food within a 10 minute drive the Hare and Hounds at Leven and the Watermill at Ings are both worth a visit. Mary is a gem nothing is to much trouble for her and she’s the font of all knowledge about the Lake District. We’ve already booked to come back next year and can’t wait our family and dogs love it!

Fantastic Cottage

Fantastic location just 8 minutes from M6 motorway with easy access to travel around the Lake District yet located in a lovely quiet village. Many lively walks within easy reach, great if like us you have a dog. The cottage is well equipped with everything you need for a very comfortable stay including a lovely enclosed garden area with table and access to a BBQ, again great if you have a dog or small children. The cottage is very cosy with heating if needed, a new modern bathroom and well equipped kitchen. This is our fifth year staying in the cottage and the owner, Mary is absolutely lovely, nothing is any bother, she has become more of a friend over the years. Cannot recommend the cottage highly enough and great value too. Plenty of really good restaurants and pubs nearby and short joirney time to May places of interest such as Arnside, Kendal, Keswick and Lake Windemere. We’ll certainly be back again!

My husband and I have just spent three days/nights here and it was wonderful. The pictures of the cottage are fab but even they can’t do justice to how welcome and at home you feel when you walk through the door. The location is also fantastic because you feel remote, yet in just one mile you have a super restaurant, shops, pubs, butchers etc., and great local walks too (all thanks to Mary’s information folder!). We really felt spoilt for choice. A fantastic break that I wish had been longer!

The Coach House was perfect for our friend’s reunion weekend. Spacious but very warm and cosy so didn’t care about the weather outside!! Would definitely recommend to others

Well we just love it here. Stayed about 4 or 5 times now and in all weathers!! Hot, Snowy, rainy and perfect every time. Everything you could wish for, lovely walks, pubs, hiking , Shops close by, and most of all such a cosy well maintained cottage with a lovely hostess Mary to top it all, look forward to our next trip x x

Our grandson was immediately taken with the “upside down” cottage we loved the fantastic views. The cottage was warm, clean and well equipped and owners were very helpful and supplied plenty of local info within the cottage. We found it to be the perfect base for exploring, just so much to do every day. Our grandson Jack (4yrs) told us “It’s the best holiday ever” what more could you ask!

Just got back from a great week at the cottage, it’s in a good location with easy access to the rest of the Lakes, we visited Bowness on Windermere, Keswick, Kendal, Dallam and Levens Parks, Fell Foot and Arnside coastal walk, our dogs thoroughly enjoyed their holiday. Lovely walk 2 minutes away up to Heversham Head. Mary was really helpful so much information we were spoilt for choice where to visit first. Local pub 2 minutes’ walk away is great for an evening drink and wind down.

Olde Blue Bell Barn, Sharon, July 2013
4 of us stayed in The Barn and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Location-wise, the local pub is only a five-minute walk away; the village centre only a five-minute drive. We took our Staffie with us and there were plenty of walks for us to enjoy. Accommodation-wise, the scenery from the lounge window was breath-taking. The rooms were clean, comfortable and warm. The welcome pack listed all local amenities including restaurants to takeaways and local attractions. Overall we were all very impressed 🙂

The Coach House, Stuart Pratt, February 2013
We stayed in the wonderful cottage for four nights, and can honestly say that the amenities and quality of accommodation was 5 star, everything you need for your stay is provided along with tea, coffee and other provisions provided by the owner Mary when you arrive. Location and surrounding area is perfect for Windermere and Arnside. Our children loved the cottage and will most definitely not be using any other accommodation as I believe this cannot be bettered.

We returned to the cottage after having stayed 10 years previous! The cottage has a fantastic view and is well equipped with all the home comforts, pets are very welcome and it is a great base for exploring the south lakes .the owners are nearby if you need any advice or information on days out. We will definitely be returning in the future.

The Coach House, Tony & Gina, September 2012
We have just spent a week at The Coach House celebrating my wife’s parent’s 50th wedding anniversary. We really enjoyed our stay as the accommodation and location were excellent. The house is a credit to Mary and really does feel like a home from home. As for the location, this was our 1st visit to The Lakes and The Coach House gave us excellent access to all the beauty spots including Ambleside, Bowness etc. Kendal is also a stone’s throw away for all your shopping needs. We hope to return.
