Top Notch!

Well, where do I begin? Mary was a particularly attentive host; we were greeted warmly after a long drive from London to heated flooring, snacks, tea and coffee. Everything was in top notch condition - bed sheets were crisp and spotless. The lounge area was comfortable, rustic and cosy (it was pretty cute with the fireplace!), as was the rest of the property, and as such was welcoming to come back to after a long day hiking up Scafell Pike. If you’d like a similar experience, you won’t regret staying here! (Coach House)

Perfect setting!

Perfect setting, bigger than it looks and so comfortable! Nothing to fault - thoroughly enjoyed our stay, would recommend. (Coach House)

A welcoming house & great location

Mary is a great host, she is very quick to respond. She left many lovely touches in the house for our arrival including fresh flowers and sweet treats. The house is in a great location for the exploring lakes and there are many walks to do from the house too. (The Coach House)

A brilliant stay!

A brilliant stay! Communication prior to staying was wonderful, with lots of information on the area and a detailed explanation of the cottage location. Mary very thoughtfully left us some prosecco and tiffin as an anniversary/birthday gift which was such a lovely surprise. The cottage was much larger than expected and exactly what we were after. We shall definitely stay again in the future!

Warm, cosy and snug.

Warm, cosy and snug - just the ticket on a winter or autumn evening after a day walking or visiting areas around the Lakes. Mary's cottage is the perfect return to if you want the quiet and peacefulness of the Lakes without the hustle and bustle - some great little walks with to die for views across the river Kent estuary - with super sun-sets and bird-watching literally only a five-minute drive away - or watch the sun go down from the nearby Heversham Head. The perfect base

Mary’s cottage is the perfect base. It was warm, clean and homely and made for a perfect week of walking and pub lunches. Highly recommend. Great value too. (Olde Blue Bell Cottage)

Sad to say our holiday will soon be coming to an end. This is our 6th time to visit Mary who is a fabulous host and her beautiful well equipped cottages. There have been some lovely changes since our last visit, probably to “Covid” proof making the cottages very homely and very clean. They are well equipped and Mary has thought of everything down to the tea tray on arrival or even ice in the freezer if you fancy a gin. Mary is so friendly and a font of knowledge for the many things to do in the area. Highly recommended.

A perfect base

Mary was great, very friendly and had lots of helpful suggestions on what to do during our stay. The house itself was lovely, very clean and welcoming, a perfect base from which to explore the southern lakes. A great stay despite a few rainy days. Thanks Mary. (Coach House)

Located in a perfect spot

Mary was a fantastic host. The cottage was so well equipped and was incredibly clean. It’s located in a perfect spot, easily accessible to the Lakes and the coast. We had a really comfortable two week stay and would definitely recommend staying here.

Coach house

I had a lovely stay at the coach house, the cottage was spacious and private. I felt really relaxed and my dog was quite at home. The little touches on arrival made us feel really welcome and the location was fantastic. I will be booking again in the near future thanks for our stay 🙂

The Coach House

We stayed at the Coach House at the end of March and had a truly enjoyable stay in beautiful surroundings. Mary was so welcoming and a font of knowledge. The accommodation was all we could ask for, a real home from home, everything that was necessary for a perfect holiday. Would love to have stayed for a second week! Thank you for a wonderful stay.

Thank you for your lovely review. I’m so glad you enjoyed your stay at The Coach House, and exploring this beautiful area. We hope we will see you again sometime. Mary

I have just spent a week at Olde Bluebell Barn. It’s a lovely place and the pictures do not do it justice. I could quite easily live there. It is ideally located and is such a lovely place. Mary is very warm, friendly and helpful. I just cannot fault the accommodation and hope to return there very soon. Best place I have stayed in so far with the dog. Also the double bed is very comfortable. I was sad to leave.

Home from Home

This year was our fourth year back at Blue Bell Cottage, we had a wonderful holiday the cottage is conveniently located for easy access to the rest of the lakes. There are plenty of lovely walks close by if you don’t want to travel to far such as Sandside, Arnside, Levens Park and Dallam Park. There’s plenty of local pubs serving excellent food within a 10 minute drive the Hare and Hounds at Leven and the Watermill at Ings are both worth a visit. Mary is a gem nothing is to much trouble for her and she’s the font of all knowledge about the Lake District. We’ve already booked to come back next year and can’t wait our family and dogs love it!

Fantastic Cottage

Fantastic location just 8 minutes from M6 motorway with easy access to travel around the Lake District yet located in a lovely quiet village. Many lively walks within easy reach, great if like us you have a dog. The cottage is well equipped with everything you need for a very comfortable stay including a lovely enclosed garden area with table and access to a BBQ, again great if you have a dog or small children. The cottage is very cosy with heating if needed, a new modern bathroom and well equipped kitchen. This is our fifth year staying in the cottage and the owner, Mary is absolutely lovely, nothing is any bother, she has become more of a friend over the years. Cannot recommend the cottage highly enough and great value too. Plenty of really good restaurants and pubs nearby and short joirney time to May places of interest such as Arnside, Kendal, Keswick and Lake Windemere. We’ll certainly be back again!

My husband and I have just spent three days/nights here and it was wonderful. The pictures of the cottage are fab but even they can’t do justice to how welcome and at home you feel when you walk through the door. The location is also fantastic because you feel remote, yet in just one mile you have a super restaurant, shops, pubs, butchers etc., and great local walks too (all thanks to Mary’s information folder!). We really felt spoilt for choice. A fantastic break that I wish had been longer!

The Coach House was perfect for our friend’s reunion weekend. Spacious but very warm and cosy so didn’t care about the weather outside!! Would definitely recommend to others

Our grandson was immediately taken with the “upside down” cottage we loved the fantastic views. The cottage was warm, clean and well equipped and owners were very helpful and supplied plenty of local info within the cottage. We found it to be the perfect base for exploring, just so much to do every day. Our grandson Jack (4yrs) told us “It’s the best holiday ever” what more could you ask!

Just got back from a great week at the cottage, it’s in a good location with easy access to the rest of the Lakes, we visited Bowness on Windermere, Keswick, Kendal, Dallam and Levens Parks, Fell Foot and Arnside coastal walk, our dogs thoroughly enjoyed their holiday. Lovely walk 2 minutes away up to Heversham Head. Mary was really helpful so much information we were spoilt for choice where to visit first. Local pub 2 minutes’ walk away is great for an evening drink and wind down.

4 of us stayed in The Barn and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Location-wise, the local pub is only a five-minute walk away; the village centre only a five-minute drive. We took our Staffie with us and there were plenty of walks for us to enjoy. Accommodation-wise, the scenery from the lounge window was breath-taking. The rooms were clean, comfortable and warm. The welcome pack listed all local amenities including restaurants to takeaways and local attractions. Overall we were all very impressed 🙂

The Coach House, Stuart Pratt, February 2013
We stayed in the wonderful cottage for four nights, and can honestly say that the amenities and quality of accommodation was 5 star, everything you need for your stay is provided along with tea, coffee and other provisions provided by the owner Mary when you arrive. Location and surrounding area is perfect for Windermere and Arnside. Our children loved the cottage and will most definitely not be using any other accommodation as I believe this cannot be bettered.

We returned to the cottage after having stayed 10 years previous! The cottage has a fantastic view and is well equipped with all the home comforts, pets are very welcome and it is a great base for exploring the south lakes .the owners are nearby if you need any advice or information on days out. We will definitely be returning in the future.

The Coach House, Tony & Gina, September 2012
We have just spent a week at The Coach House celebrating my wife’s parent’s 50th wedding anniversary. We really enjoyed our stay as the accommodation and location were excellent. The house is a credit to Mary and really does feel like a home from home. As for the location, this was our 1st visit to The Lakes and The Coach House gave us excellent access to all the beauty spots including Ambleside, Bowness etc. Kendal is also a stone’s throw away for all your shopping needs. We hope to return.
